5/26/10 Great American Ballpark

0526102221.jpg

The Day started off terrible… First I left my camera at my house so I didn’t get a chance to take a lot of pictures. But I did manage to take a few from my phone. And second it was Bark in the Park night. So I figured it would be a little more crowned then normal at the game. But the good thing was that the games were going to open up early at 5:10 instead of 5:40. So I got down there 30 min early like normal only to fine 20 Dogs waiting in line.  When I got in the stadium I ran straight to the Right Field seats. That’s the only place we were allowed until 5:40 when the rest of the stadium opened.

Surprisingly the Right Field seats stayed kind of empty for about ten minuets giving me time to snag a few easy balls. Ball # 1 was off the bat of Orlando Cabrera, it landed a few rows to my left and no one was even close. I walked over and picked it up for a easy snag. About 5 minuets later Brandon Phillips hit one right at me, only to fly over my head a few rows back. Once again I walked over and picked up a easy snag for Ball # 2. Those were the only two balls I got from the Reds portion of BP. When the Pirates game out, Octavio Dotel was long tossing with another Pirate pitcher. So I was standing there watching them when I saw this ball thrown from the corner of left field coming right at me. I reached up and caught it. After I caught it Dotel said “Hey man can I have that ball, I will get you another one.” So I took his word for it.  Five Minuets later he yelled at me and tossed me Ball # 3.  After that I stayed in the same spot for another batter. Mean while I managed to get Zach Duke to toss me Ball #4. Balls 5 and 6 were caught on flies from Lastings Milledge and Andrew McCutchen.

At that point it was around 5:35 and the rest of the stadium was about to open. So I went to the bottom of the ramp behind the smoke stakes in center. The ramp led you up to the Left field seats. I wanted to be there because I have seen like ten balls land over there. So when they let me go I ran up to the seats and went to the bottom rows. A couple of people were right behind me so I had to pick where I was going to go. And when I got there it was like Easter Sunday. I found balls: 7,8,9,10,11 lying in the seats. If I would have been the only one there, I would have picked up 20 Easter Eggs. But anyways I was pumped up that I had reached Double Digits and I still had time to get more.

Ball # 12 came off the bat from Delwyn Young. Right after I snagged that one I got Joel Hanrahan to toss me ball # 13.  My last ball of the day was a laser I got on a fly off the bat of  Ronny Cedeno for ball # 14.  ( Below is a picture of the LF Seats after BP)

I don have another game planned in the next few days. I am working a lot for my upcoming vacations. But I never know when I might fit a game into my schedule. So stay tuned for more games.

5/24/10 Great American Ballpark

So going into today’s game I was coming off the best game I have had the whole year. So I was hoping for a repeat performance, but figured that it might be a little crowded due to the fact that the Reds had a ceremony for the anniversary of the first night game. So I wanted to get down to the ballpark a little early and try to snag a few balls early before the crowd got there. I got to the Right Field gate around 5:10, a good thirty minuets before the gates opened. I was the first in line. I figured I would try something new this game. And that was act like a Pirates fan. Below is a Picture of me trying to look like a Pirates fan.
CIMG5096.JPG

When I got into the stadium I went right to the left field stands where their was only a handful of people there. A few seconds after that I snagged my 1st ball when Andrew McCutchen  hit a bullet that hit a seat a few rows in front of me, I walked down and picked it up with out any threat of another person. I then position myself in the middle of the seats about 6 rows up when McCutchen hit another ball right to me; I made the easy catch for ball #2.

After snagging that ball I moved over to Left Center by the reds bullpen, I was in that spot for maybe 30 seconds when Steve Pearce blasted one over my head a few rows back, I hopped a row of seats to grab ball # 3. So I was off to a good start so I stayed put in left field rather then try my luck in right. Balls 4 and 5 came off the bat of Lastings Milledge back to back.

Since I was decked out in my Pirates hat that I had won when I was at PNC Park, I figured I would try to get some players to toss me a few balls. After standing in the front row for about 5 min and watching the players just catch the balls and throw them back I about gave up on the whole getting a ball tossed to me. So I waited a little longer, everyone was yelling “Hey Mister Can I have a ball.” Sorry…… but that’s not going to work.  So when a ball was hit deep to the wall with Javier Lopez making the catch. I said “Hey Javier what do you think about them Virginia Cavaliers.” He turned around and laughed and tossed me ball #6.  Javier pitched at The University of Virginia.

I headed back about 6 rows and figured I would camp out their for the next couple of batters.  Well it paid off when Delwyn Young hit one right towards me. At first I had a beat on it, but I lost it in the sun. So I ducked down and turned my back to field and covered my head with my mitt. Just as I thought, the ball hit a seat and bounced right back towards me for ball # 7. ( Below is a Picture of my Delwyn Young signed ball and Steve Pearce signed hat)

CIMG5166.JPG

So after snagging that ball I got double digits in mind. “3 more to go.”  Ball # 8 came from Ryan Doumit. Ball # 9 was another one hit by D. Young, Which I would later get him to sign.  ONE MORE BALL TO GO is all I could think of. As I was putting my last ball into my bag Young hit another one towards me , but it sailed over my head and hit this guy right in the hands. I thought he had it but it hit his hands and landed right in mine for ball # 10. I caught the ball and took a quick look at it and made sure it wasn’t in Perfect Condition or had anything wrote on it. I then tossed it up to that guy that it hit his hands. I told him ” man that one was yours.”

The Battle of Ohio….  On the way up to Cleveland I didn’t think that I was going to get a chance to see batting practice due to the bad weather that was suppose to come. We got to Cleveland around 11:00am and made it to the 11:30am tour. The tour was pretty cool, we basically did the and saw the same thing we did in Pittsburgh. But it’s always cool to walk on a MLB field so I recommend going on a tour if you already haven’t.

Below is a picture of me in one of the club suits … And in the background they are taking the tarp off.

CIMG4723.JPG

After that we went a few more places, but after all we ended up in the visitor’s bullpen and onto the field. (Below is a picture of me  on the field)

GAME

After the tour I left and came back, I got to Gate C around 4:00pm with the gate opening up at 4:30. When I got there, their were already a few people in line. Once inside I ran down to the right field seats and looked for Easter Eggs only to fine NOTHING…  But it was not long after that when I snagged my first ball. Shin-Soo Choo hit a ball that bounce off the top of the wall and came right at me. That was ball # 1 after that I kind of went on a dry streak, until I got Indians Chris Perez to throw me ball #2.  Not five minutes later I got balls 3 and 4 tossed to me from Jonny Gomes

This was what it looked liked when I got to the stands. ( below)

CIMG4814.JPG

Ball #5 was a ball hit by Jay Bruce. Ball # 6, 7 were found down the first baseline after the rest of the stadium was open at 6:00

With about 5 min left in batting practice I got Nick Masset to toss me ball #11 that was my final ball of the day. So I have to say Progressive Field was pretty good to me today. I was planning on coming to tomorrow’s game but I won’t be able to make it. But I will be back to Progressive for a few more games this year.

During the game I spent some time down both first and third base lines waiting for some foul balls. After 6 innings of no balls close I headed over to the Toyota Home Run Deck in left field where I spent the rest of the game (Below)

RAIN RAIN RAIN…. That’s all it did for the whole day in Cincy. I didn’t think their was going to be a game. Around 4:30 it stated to slow down, so I grabbed my stuff and headed down to the ballpark. When I got to the Right Field gate around 5:20 me and my fellow Hawker (Da Berg Report) were first in line. Only to get inside the stadium to see that the tarp was on the field, and that only means one thing NO BP. I went from being pumped to mad. (Below is a Picture of the field when I walked in)

CIMG3143.JPG

The pitchers were in the outfield warming up. So I figured that I might be able to get one of the pitchers to throw me a ball and keep my modest streak alive.

CIMG3145.JPG

After most of the pitchers left the field without tossing any of the balls, I yelled at Arthur Rhodes to toss me a ball, with out hesitation he tossed me a ball. So thanks to Mr. Rhodes my streak was alive. That was ball #1

Not 5 min later, Bronson Arroyo tossed me a ball, which was my 2nd and final ball of the day.

CIMG3161.JPG

The Reds got a good outing from Johnny Cueto who went a sold 7 innings striking out 7. He gave up only 1 ER.  Jonny Gomes hit a 3 run Home Run in the 7 inning to give the reds the led. The Reds went on to win the game 6-3

CIVIL RIGHTS GAME

CIMG4404.JPGWow….. This was an awesome game from the start. Not only did the Reds end up winning the game thanks to a GREAT defense play. The real reason that is was one of the best games I have ever been to is because of the people that were there. Hank Aaron, Ernie Banks, Frank Robinson and WILLIE MAYS. How many times do you go to a game and see four of the best players of all time. So with that being the case I was kind of scared about snagging any balls at this game. Because of the pre game festivities the gates were going to open 30 min early then they normally do. So when the gates opened at 5:10 I got my Chuck Harmon replica jersey and ran out to the moon deck in right and this was the scene when I got there….

CIMG4415.JPG

The Reds were only out on the field for about five minutes and nothing was hit close to me. So when the Cardinals started BP I started over to the Left Field seats and on the way I ran into another Ball Hawker Counting Baseballs who I also saw in Pittsburgh a few days ago. A few balls were hit close but not close enough to snag them. My 1ST Ball came off the bat of Cardinals Nick Stavinoha. After that 1st ball I went on a 15 min cold streak. My 2nd Ball was hit by Ryan Ludwick. And my 3rd Ball and final was my favorite BP ball of the Season. I had just moved over a few feet when Albert Pujols hit a rocket right at me I reached out and snagged it, It also was a Perfect White Ball.

I came with my girlfriend Amanda, and she got a ball tossed to her for the 4th straight came by Daniel Herrera. I think he might like her? LOL

Anyways after Batting Practice we headed over to the Reds Dugout to get a close up of Civil Rights Ceremony.

As far as the game went it was Mike Leake taking the mound for the Reds and Adam Wainwright for the Cardinals. Mike Leake pitched a sold six innings and Drew Stubb’s also helped out with a 2 run triple in the sixth to break a 2-2 tie. The Reds went on to win the game on the last play of the game when Chris Heisey hit cut off man Orlando Cabrera  who hit catcher Ramon Hernandez who tagged out Schumaker at home plate to end the game. The Reds won 4-3

5/10/2010 PNC Park

It took me about 5 hours to get to Pittsburgh after stopping a few times for gas and stuff. My fellow Hawker (Blyberg) and my girlfriend Amanda came along with me. By the time we got into the city it was 11:30am, and because I had never been there before I didn’t no the layout of the city and had no clue where to go to park. After finding a place to park it was almost 11:50am and the tour of the ballpark started at Noon. We made it to the ballpark just on time. Below is a picture of my first view of the ballpark

022.JPGOnce inside this was the view I got from the left field stands……

032.JPG

And turn to the left………

026.JPG

The tour guy told us that they modeled there Press Box after the one in Wrigley. I thought that was pretty cool. But anyways it was very nice and had a awesome view of the field and the city. Below is the view…..

061.JPG

After the Press Box we headed down to the club level of the stadium. Below is one of the bars on the club level.

Below is a picture of me and fellow Hawker Berg outside of the club seats in left field….

From there we headed down to the Access left which consisted of the Pirates and Visitors clubhouse. We didn’t get to go inside them we just walked by them. At this time we had been on the tour for about an hour and we had been every where except one place….. THE FIELD. That’s where I really wanted to go. So we walked down some stairs and then up a few and we came out right in the Pirates Dugout.

Here is a Picture of Amanda , Me and Berg in the dugout.

We went from the dugout onto the field….YEAHHHHHH

 Still on the field………..

170.JPG

So we wrapped up the Tour around 1:30 and headed to get some Food… Had about three hours to kill before we needed to head back and get ready for BP.

Game Time

So after the five hour drive and a tour and some food, I was ready for some batting practice and snagging some balls. I switched into my game gear and headed for the Park. After we walked across the Roberto Clemente Bridge ( below) and headed for the center field gate that opened at 5:00pm.

269.JPG

So the center field gate opens up for everyone at 5:00, but there is a catch to it. Only the season ticket holders are aloud to go into the stands at 5, everyone else can only walk around what is called the River Walk.  So here I am bummed because I cant get into the stadium that is close to being empty to snag a few balls….hummmmm what to do?  As I was walking along the river walk I saw that the Center Field seats had a gate that was not locked. So I walked in all by myself, only to get kicked out. But not before I had found my #1 ball of the day lying in a seat. ( Below is a Picture of Center Field when we walked in)

281.JPG

I ended the day with 6 total balls. ( Pictured below)

  1. Found in CF Seats
  2. Tossed by Jonny Gomes  *
  3. Tossed by Jay Bruce
  4. Caught – BP
  5. Tossed by Homer Bailey
  6. Caught -BP

* Right after GomeS tossed me a ball, I yelled “Thanks Jonny Geeeee , You think you could sign my ball” He looked up at me and came over and signed my ball. What a nice guy.

After BP we went over to the reds dugout to try to get some autographs. After the players warmed up I managed to get Brandon Phillips to come over to sign my ball. ( Below)

5/7/2010 Great American Ballpark

So this is my first post of the 2010 season. Up until this post I have snagged 14 balls in four games all at GABP. Today my Redlegs were playing the Chicago Cubs and i didn’t want to pass up seeing the Major League Debut of Starlin Castro. When me and my fellow ball hawkers Blyberg and my girlfriend got to the right field gate just before the gates open at 5:40. When they opened I ran up to the right field moon deck at GAPB ready to catch some balls.

It didn’t take long before a snagged a ball off the bat of Cubs D. Lee. After that i kinda hit a dry spell. With the stands starting to fell up with Cubs fans it was going to be a little harder to snag any balls.

My second ball i caught on a fly , It was a ball hit by Geovany Soto

With batting practice about to end i was starting to get scared that i might end the day with only 2 balls. Just about that time Soto hit another one right next to the smoke stakes in right center, I ran up the stands and the ball bounce right into my MIT, It was my third ball of the day.

I wanted one more ball so i ran over to the reds bullpen and got the bullpen catcher to toss me another ball. It was my forth and final ball.

So after the cubs left the field , I went to meet up with my girlfriend to find out that she snagged four balls to.

After that we headed over to the reds dugout to try to get some autographs. The only reds that came out to warm up were Bruce, Votto , Dickerson and Phillips. After the warmed up Dickerson made his way over to sign one of my balls.

So it was a alright day. I snagged four balls got one autograph, and got to see Castros MLB debut. In his first at bat he hit a Home Run, and finished the game with 6 RBI. The bad thing about the day was that the Reds lost 14-7.

My next post will be about PNC Field…… May 10, 2010
